Going Green case study: C-N-Do Scotland

C-N-Do Scotland is a Stirling based walking company that has embraced sustainable tourism practices, pioneering best practice.

In 2005 C-N-Do Scotland became the first outdoor business to become a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and was awarded Gold status. Director, Margaret Porter, explained why they chose to join this Government initiative:

"C-N-Do's philosophy from the year we started, 1984, has always been to be sustainable, work with local businesses and communities wherever we are, enjoy the Scottish landscapes and encourage others to discover, learn about and appreciate them. We wanted to minimise our impact on the environment and try to put something back. So we thought we would measure ourselves against this initiative."

"What did we learn? It was found that although we were doing lots of things really well, there were still areas in which we could improve and save money. This included saving £400 per annum on energy costs by restructuring our Stirling base."
