Then why not help us with wildlife monitoring?

Biodiversity is simply the variety of life, from the tiniest ant to the tallest tree. Biodiversity helps keep the planet (including us) healthy.

Being able to monitor trends in biodiversity is extremely important to knowing what is there and what needs help. Wildlife spotting is fun and it can be adventurous too! Can you be eyes and ears for the Trust? It is probably the most adventurous and wildest trek within the UK. Yet it is very achievable for regular walkers when walked over 14 one-day stages. It is a route of incomparable contrasts, of wild passes and lonely glens, of some rough walking but awe-inspiring wild mountains and stunning coastlines. The isolation and remoteness is incomparable.

Although our Cape Wrath Trail is not a waymarked trail (and doesn't even follow a path for much of the way) it is becoming recognised as the ultimate UK achievement for long distance walkers. Our experienced and qualified guide takes care of the tricky navigation which may be encountered on the open pathless hill and moorland sections, enabling you to fully enjoy the walking experience to its fullest.

More information and booking

For more information or to make a booking visit our Cape Wrath Trail walking holiday page or for an itinerary please contact us on +44 0 1786 445 703.

CNDo Scotland Carbon Conservation scheme

CNDo Scotland Carbon Conservation Scheme - Sharing the Paramo Philosophy

Our Carbon Conservation Scheme has been featured in the Paramo Clothing Hill, Hike & More catalog. Here's what they had to say about it:

A pioneering carbon conservation scheme developed by National Trust for Scotland(NTS) and Paramo Premier Retailer, C~N~Do Scotland, celebrates its first year on the island of Arran.

The peat in Scotland's soils is one of the most significant peat bog carbon stores in the world. If it dries out, carbon is released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. To conserve both soil and carbon, NTS and C~N~Do Scotland eastablished it's Carbon Conservation Scheme in January 2007 with a web-based appeal for donations.

Work commenced in August 2007 at NTS Goatfell property, with volunteers damming drains on the damaged upland peat bog in Coire a'Bhradhain.

Kate Sampson, NTS Senior Ranger on Arran, commented:

"The NTS volunteers made real progress with controlling water, stopping the peat drying out, recreating boggy conditions, and promoting species like sphagnum mosses, sundews and bog cotton grass. The scheme with C~N~Do has been integral, rainsing awareness as well as funds, and encouraging individuals and businesses to act onn their carbon footprint."

Contribute to the project, as an individual or a business, and reduce the carbon impact of your energy costs. To donate or to join a conservation group visit the C~N~Do Scotland Carbon Conservation web site.

CNDo Scotland featured in Stirling Eye magazine

CNDo Scotland featured in Stirling Eye magazine

CNDo Scotland and our unique approach to sustainable tourism have been featured in this months Stirling Eye magazine, Stirling Councils quarterly round up of business news and key facts and figures on Stirling's economy.

Going Green case study: C-N-Do Scotland

C-N-Do Scotland is a Stirling based walking company that has embraced sustainable tourism practices, pioneering best practice.

In 2005 C-N-Do Scotland became the first outdoor business to become a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and was awarded Gold status. Director, Margaret Porter, explained why they chose to join this Government initiative:

"C-N-Do's philosophy from the year we started, 1984, has always been to be sustainable, work with local businesses and communities wherever we are, enjoy the Scottish landscapes and encourage others to discover, learn about and appreciate them. We wanted to minimise our impact on the environment and try to put something back. So we thought we would measure ourselves against this initiative."

"What did we learn? It was found that although we were doing lots of things really well, there were still areas in which we could improve and save money. Varying sized bunkrooms are comfortable, spacious, warm and ensuite. With all the catering taken care of to C~N~Do's renowned standard.

Our location within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park area, a fantastically varied landscape full of interest and challenge, is near perfect for a wide range of winter walking from easy loch sides, forests and gles, to rolling hills and high mountain tops.

There are choices of walks each day with a hill walk for the adventurous, a more leisurely stravaig for those who have had a bit too much plum duff, and perhaps a couple of other choices as well.
